About ~ Christian Science Practitioners
(and Teachers)
When you call a Christian Science Practitioner or
Teacher for help, it is because you have chosen to rely on prayer
for help and healing. This prayerful support from the Practitioner
nurtures the spiritual growth of the patient during this time
of healing and renewal. Everyone in this field of labor relies
entirely on the power of God. Individuals do not hold any
special healing powers of their own. Whether the problem appears
in the form of sickness, sin, economic issues, or relationships...
an individual turns to God and recognizes that God is able to
help him.
The Practitioner offers prayerful support
based on teachings from Christ Jesus, the Bible,
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and other writings by Mary
Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science.
Mary Baker Eddy, was inspired to bring Christian
healing back to mankind. The words themselves offer insight into
what Christian Science is. The word Christian literally means
to follow the teachings of Christ, and the word Science means “the
state or fact of knowledge” (Webster's New World Dictionary).
Christian Science teaches the knowledge of man’s relation
to God, his Creator, as taught by Christ Jesus. A Christian Science
Practitioner puts this knowledge into practice at every opportunity.
Through her own healing and teaching, Mary
Baker Eddy encouraged her students to follow the example of Christ
Jesus and to take their place as Christian healers in today’s
world. When Christ Jesus instructed the twelve he sent forth,
the Bible tells us he commanded them, ”…as ye go,
preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick,
cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye
have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:7,8) This invitation,
inscribed on the familiar trademark the Cross and Crown, still
calls us all into the practice of Christian healing.
Mrs. Eddy wrote, “Hold perpetually
this thought, - that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost
and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific
certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle,
Love, underlying, overlying and encompassing all true being.” (Science
and Health, with Key to the Scriptures, page 496:15) –
